CHARGING MODEs
Learn more about Charging Modes for PortFi EV charging stations. For the best experience, please disable any charging schedule set with your vehicle.
Plug & Charge: default charging mode that allows the charger to automatically start charging when plugged into a vehicle. Once plugged in, the charger will start a charging session in 5s if it's online, or in 60s if offline.
App Control: manually start a charging session using the app or by tapping an RFID card/fob (if supported). This charging mode requires a reliable network connection. Once plugged in, the charger will start a charging session only after an authorized user sends the "Remote Start Charging" command from the app or taps an authorized RFID card/fob on the device.
Scheduled Charging: start a charging session according to the scheduled charging time that recurs daily. This charging mode requires a reliable network connection. An authorized user may configure a scheduled charging time in the app. At the scheduled charging time (or during the subsequent 10-min grace period), the charger will start a charging session if it's plugged into a vehicle. You may still use the app or an RFID card/fob to manually start a charging session anytime.
Other Useful Notes:
Offline behaviors: while Plug & Charge mode allows the charger to operate offline, charging sessions can NOT start under the App Control and Scheduled Charging Modes if the charger is offline. If the network connection is sketchy, the charger may struggle to start a charging session. Therefore, it's the best practice that the user ensures a reliable network connection and confirms active charging in the app after remote or scheduled charging command.
If there is an electric current (A) limit set at the vehicle, the resultant limit will be the lower of that and the limit set at the charger (if any).
If there is a charging start time scheduled at the vehicle, a charging session will not start until the latter of that and the scheduled start time set at the charger (if any). However, it's the best practice to set the scheduled charging time ONLY at the charger to prevent unexpected charging behaviors.
An authorized user may change the charging mode at any time in the app.
For ANY charging modes above, an authorized user may use the app to:
setup daily-recurring electric current (A) limits by the hour;
remotely start a charging session after plugging in
except for Plug & Charger which will start charging automatically;
adjust current (A) during charging;
remotely stop a charging session;
view charging history.
